Growing Without Friction: Roger Warnes Transport’s 9 Years with TransMaS

Roger Warnes Transport is a family-owned bulk haulage company that has been operating nationally for nearly 50 years and more recently taking on its first international loads to and from Europe. With a 100-strong fleet, the business is a complex operation. To maintain their reputation for straightforward service, they need clear coordination between their teams.
Seamless Data Across Multiple Sites
We spoke with Technical Director Ben Warnes, who has overseen the company’s digital evolution. When the business first started with TransMaS in 2017, they were operating from a head office and a separate depot; one of the largest benefits of the switch was how easily it kept everyone connected. "TransMaS being cloud-based is the biggest difference to our previous TMS. It allows us to work seamlessly across sites with all departments and team members able to access the data they need,” Ben explains.
As the business has grown to four sites, so has the technology. Reducing manual data entry has been key to avoiding mistakes. A major milestone was the introduction of the TransMaS API, which allowed the team to integrate the software with other business systems.
TransMaS’s technical flexibility was particularly useful during the acquisition of Laws Transport. Initially, Laws was set up as a separate entity, using inter-account orders to keep the two operations moving together. As the businesses merged more fully, the data was eventually combined, allowing the entire group to run seamlessly from a single system.
Roger Warnes has been a key partner in providing feedback to TransMaS over the years, helping the system evolve alongside the needs of a large-scale fleet. "If you’re standing still, you’re effectively going backwards. Software is a key part of any business these days, and it's not by chance that we're coming up on a decade with TransMaS," Ben notes.

One of the biggest challenges for a large haulier is finding software that does everything you need without being impossible to navigate. For Ben, the most used tool remains the Scheduler Screen. It manages to pack in the high level of detail required to run 100 vehicles while keeping the interface clear and straightforward—a balance that is central to how TransMaS is designed.

"Everything we enter on the system is a form of communication to the whole team," Ben says. "It allows you to work as a team. It reduces phone calls but improves communication with accurate orders flowing directly to the driver app."
